Description: LifeKeeper Installation and Administration
is an instructor-led class lasting three days. Separate versions of the
course are offered for Linux and Microsoft Windows Server. (By special arrangement, the basic
course material for both operating system platforms will be covered over a four day
period.) Topics for the first two days include concepts, installation, configuration,
and administration of LifeKeeper and SteelEye Data Replication. Each module includes
hands-on lab exercises to reinforce learning objectives. An optional, third day may be devoted
to the discussion of specific, complex application solutions and/or custom development. For example
on Linux, this discussion could include the Oracle and MySAP solutions. For Microsoft Windows, it
could include Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft Exchange.

Pre-requisites
Attendees should have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Linux or Unix operating system (LifeKeeper for Linux)
- Microsoft Windows Server operating system (LifeKeeper for Windows)
- Basic network configuration
- Fibre channel and/or SCSI disk sub-systems (shared storage experience is helpful)
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the LifeKeeper Installation and Administration course, the student should be able to:
- Describe the key components of a LifeKeeper cluster
- Plan a LifeKeeper cluster configuration
- Understand the SteelEye Technology product licensing process
- Install and configure the LifeKeeper core software
- Install and configure SteelEye Data Replication
- Configure and monitor intra-node communications
- Create, extend, test and delete resources and hierarchies
- Describe the components necessary to create a Generic Application Recovery Kit
- Configure a web server instance (either Apache or IIS), and place it under LifeKeeper protection
- Perform manual node switchover and automatic failover
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting tasks
- Create, extend, test and monitor a SteelEye Data Replication resource
- Understand LifeKeeper's basic architecture
